Syfy Adapts Award Winning Novel SPIN to Miniseries

Jim Uhls, acclaimed writer behind films like Fight Club and Semper Fi, has been tapped to helm Syfy’s six hour miniseries based on Robert Charles Wilson’s Hugo Award winning novel, Spin.

Today Syfy made the announcement that Uhls had signed on to the apocalyptic adaptation, which centers on a young scientist’s attempt to save humanity from the impending threat of a mysterious, impenetrable cloud that’s enveloping the Earth and blacking out the stars.

Spin, an award winning novel originally published in 2005, is the first book in a best-selling trilogy that also includes the titles Axis and Vortex.

Olympus Pictures’ Leslie Urdang and Rob Morrow’s Bits and Pieces Picture Company are set to produce alongside Universal Cable Productions.

Olympus and Urdang are known for Oscar nominated “Rabbit Hole,” Oscar winning “Beginners,” “Thanks for Sharing” which stars Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Gad, as well as “Adam” with Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne. Bits and Pieces Picture Company, which produces and develops film/tv/digital content, is currently working with The Weinstein Company on a new half hour cable series.
